Aamulla toin Rommelin sisään, ja liimasin ja naulasin kannen paikalleen. Tein myös
pääkannen yläpuolella olevan kannen, mutta sitä ei voi vielä kiinnittää, koska ei ole
vielä painolastia. Laitoin myös kaikki radio- ym. laitteet kiinni. Kun olin laittamassa
akkua laivaan, meni eräs johto oikosulkuun. Se vain pölläytti kauhean savupilven1 ja
hehkui poikki. Onneksi akku säilyi ehjänä. Yhdistin akun sillä tavalla, että moottori
saa 4, 6 tai 10 volttia. Illalla tulivat isä ja Piukku Helsingistä.

Wednesday
In the morning I took the Rommel inside, and used glue and nails to attach the main decking.
I also did the upper deck, but could not attach it, as the ballast has not been put in yet.
I also attached all the radio and such equipment. When I was connecting the battery, one
wire short-circuited. Just a heavy puff of smoke1, with the wire glowing and then getting cut.
Luckily the battery was not damaged. I connected the battery in such a way, that I can drive
the motor with 4, 6 or 10 volts. In the evening dad and Piukku came home from Helsinki.

Maanantai
Tänään oli juuri ja juuri niin lämmintä, että voin lakata Rommelin ulkoa. Kun lakka oli
kuivunut pari tuntia, laitoin Rommeliin taas radiolaitteet, ja menin "kakkalätäkölle"
koeuittamaan. Se ui oikein hyvin, kun laitoin siihen pari isohkoa kiveä painolastiksi.
Se on minun ensimmäinen laiva, joka ei vuoda yhtään! Ja se kulkee kovaa kuudellakin voltilla.
Uittamisen jälkeen punnitsin kivien painon verran sementtiä, ja laitoin sen lopulliseksi
painolastiksi. Illalla tein kansirakenteita.

Monday
Today the weather was barely warm enough for lacquering the outside hull of the Rommel.
After the lacquer had had a couple of hours to dry, I again attached the radio equipment,
and went to the "poo puddle" to test it. It swam very well, after adding a couple of largish
rocks as ballast. It is my first ship that does not leak at all! And it goes fast even with just six volts.
After the test run I weighed a suitable amount of cement, and used that as the final ballast.
In the evening I made some superstructure elements.
