Tänään oli vaikeat biologian kokeet. Niissä oli 5 essee-kysymystä. Eilen sain moottorin käymään hyvin, ja ajelin vähän hydrokopterilla kunnes se kaatui ylösalaisin. Sen jälkeen en enää saanut sitä käymään. Tänään tuli Hytösen Juha¹ käymään meillä, ja me yritimme saada moottorin käymään, mutta ei se lähtenyt, koska käynnistysparistossa ei enää ole kunnolla virtaa. Pitäisi kai ostaa uusi paristo.

Today we had a difficult biology exam. It had 5 essay questions. Yesterday I managed to start the model engine fine, and drove my airboat until it flipped upside down. After that I did not manage to restart it. Today Juha Hytönen¹ came to visit, and we tried to start the model engine, but failed, as the glow plug battery did not have sufficient voltage. I guess I should buy a new battery.

Aamupäivästä Roineen Markku¹ sai minut houkuteltua lähtemään ulos yrittämään saada hydrokopterin moottoria käymään. Ja se ihme kyllä lähti käyntiin! Ajoin sillä ympäri pihaa, kunnes se kaatui ja peräsin irtosi. Koko poikaporukka² tuli meille siksi aikaa kun minä korjasin peräsintä. Make³ ja Korpela⁴ leikivät ohjaamosimulaattorillani, ja sitten lähdettiin taas ajelemaan. Syönnin jälkeen yritin taas käynnistää sitä, mutta siitä hajosi kaasun työntötanko. Kello kuuden maissa menimme taas ulos, Timo ja Piukkukin mukana, ja ajelimme taas. Iirokin ajoi, mutta ajoi pensaaseen. Kopterin pohjan päällystys⁵ kului puhki, ja nyt illalla olen tehnyt siihen jalaksia.

In the morning Markku Roine¹ got me to go out trying to get the airboat engine to start. Quite suprisingly it did start! I drove it around the yard, until it flipped and the rudder got loose. The whole bunch of boys² came to my room while I fixed the rudder. Make³ and Korpela⁴ played with my cockpit simulator, and then we again went to drive the airboat. After lunch I again attempted to start it, but the carburetor pushrod got broken. At around 6pm we went out again, including Timo and Piukku, and drove it around some more. Iiro also drove it, but hit a bush. The bottom coating⁵ wore away, so this evening I have been making skids for it.

2. Most of the boys from the neighborhood, probably at least the Roine brothers, Matti Korpela, Iiro Ikonen and Timo Masalin.
3. Make was the nickname of the older Roine brother, Matti.
4. Matti Korpela was called Korpela among us.
5. I had coated the bottom of the airboat using a thin plastic film.
